Patrisse Cullors at the Honolulu Museum of Art
On June 28, 2018 the Pōpolo Project hosted Patrisse Cullors at the Honolulu Museum of Art as part of her book tour for her best-selling memoir When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir. She read a selection from the text and joined her long-time friend and comrade Prentis Hemphill on stage for a moderated discussion before fielding questions from the audience.
While Patrisse was on O‘ahu, she sat down with the Pōpolo Project’s executive director, Akiemi Glenn, to talk about connections between Black Lives Matter and Hawai‘i and why understanding Blackness is essential in freedom struggles around the world.
