The Reminders in Hawai‘i

The Pōpolo Project is again partnering with Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture, and Design to host musicians the Reminders as artists in residence at the museum. This dynamic duo—Big Samir & Aja Black—will be in residence from May 26- June 7, 2019! They seamlessly blend hip hop, soul and roots music and melodies into powerful performances with insight and thoughtfulness.
The Reminders have worked with award-winning artists such as Snoop Dogg, Nas, Mos Def, Big Boi, Lauryn Hill, Brother Ali and Thievery Corporation, and the duo actively delivers workshops and talks to community organizations, schools and universities around the world. Their latest album, “Out of the Woods,” was released in 2019 and follows “Born Champions” (2012) and their debut, “Recollect” (2008).
